Roos Dominate GFL Awards

The 2012 Mitchell Medal count saw Kanga’s take out Fairest & Best in all three Grades as well as Rookie of the Year.

The night was off to a great start with Brandon Higgins taking out the Colts Len Stokes Award  polling 43 votes, seven votes clear of teammate Ryan MacDonald and rival Glenn Stones from Railways.

It was good news for Reserves player Chris Burrows following his serious leg injury on the weekend as he overcame Neil Cyprian from Railways by one vote to be named the Don Jones Medallist for 2012.

Capping off a stella first season with the Roos Alex Stewart took out the prestigious Mitchell Medal with 43 votes, nine votes clear of closest rival Railway’s Chris Brunnenmeyer.

The awards didn’t stop there Ryan MacDonald was presented with his MacGregor Medal as Fairest & Best player during the Great Southern Carnival he was awarded earlier this year. He managed the double as he was voted 2012 Rookie of The Year.

Russell Cowie and Neil Van Der Plank both kicked 44 goals for the season to be joint winners of the Reserves Goal Kicking award.

It was a great night for the club and we congratulate all the winners on their outstanding performances in 2012.

The club now looks to the Preliminary Finals this Sunday where all three grades are looking for a place in the Grand Final.

Good Luck to all grades!
