2012 has been a very successful season for the club, under new President Bob Bongiorno and a new committee the club’s goal was to improve both on and off the field.
With several new recruits all three grades performed well all progressing to the second semi finals. A huge Congratulations to Russell, Aj and the Reserves side being the only side that managed to bring home the flag. Unfortunately the League boys weren’t able to do the same, going down by 45 points.
The committee decided to give back to the community this season by taking part in the Pink Footy Day on Mother’s Day. This saw the league players wear Pink socks and a pink football was used for the game. A Ladies luncheon was held in the clubrooms and approx $1300.00 was raised for this great cause.
The club initiated a novelty kick of the footy through the streets of Kalgoorlie from Digger Daws Oval to Sir Richard Moore to raise fund for Gimme 5 for Kids, where the money goes to aid sick children in the Goldfields. The club alone raised $4,500.00 which was a massive result and $15,000.00 being raised in total by all teams.
The club hopes to continue to assist these two charities in seasons to come.
Socially the club held several events throughout the year. Hypnotist Damien Mind Master, all the way from Sydney entertained everyone back in July however the Fictional Character dress up night was the highlight of the social scene this season.
The Harley Davison Major Raffle draw was again a huge success. The clubbies were again packed to hear the much anticipated winner announced. This year saw Goat ride who is from Perth ride home on the Harley. Well done to Bubba for the time and effort put in coordinating the draw.
The clubs success was evident at the Mitchell medal count as we took home majority of the awards including Best & Fairest for all three grades.
The club wishes to thank all our Sponsors who have supported the club in 2012. Vector Resources were again on board as the Major Sponsor however there were several new companies who jumped on to help the club. Without the sponsors the club would not exist so again, thanks to you all.
Congratulations to Bob and the committee for the year, all your time and hard work does not go unnoticed. Unfortunately Bob has announced he will be leaving town therefore standing down as president. A new president will be appointed to lead the club and build on the success of 2012 and make next season even bigger and better.
The AGM date will be announced in the coming weeks so stay tuned for that and come along if you want to be involved in 2013.
See you all next season, Go Roos!
